SSH keys (private and public key pairs) play a critical role in providing security within the enterprise. Any user or application with access to these keys can gain privileged access to an account. Any number of keys can be created and deployed at will, and without a way to track or remove them, there is no visibility into who has access to what servers. When the keys are poorly managed and left unsecured, malicious users can elevate their privileges permanently if SSH keys are never terminated.
