Sectors that put biodiversity at risk in the US

Thank you for your interest in this resource!

Based on 50 years of data, a report by non-profit NatureServe found that 40% of ecosystems in the US are at risk of collapse. Changes to land and water use, overexploitation, climate change, and invasive species all play a role. The extractive sectors, which include mining and oil and gas, often impact land ecosystems, endangered species, and protected areas. Our Geospatial dataset reveals that 31% of Key Biodiversity Areas in the US have at least one active or planned extractive project within 1 km.
