NJSBA Cooperative Pricing Service Adds Canvas LMS to Support Virtual Instruction

TRENTON, NJ — July 16, 2020 — The New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) today announced the addition of the Canvas Learning Management System, by Instructure, to the NJSBA TEC Cooperative Pricing System. Offered through NJSBA’s contract with Carahsoft Technology Corp., the Canvas LMS supports in-person, blended and remote learning, essential functions as school districts prepare for the 2020-2021 school year.

NJSBA’s TEC Cooperative Pricing System is a membership service, supported by the New Jersey Department of Education, that enables school districts and member charter schools to secure technology at significantly reduced cost, to access free and low-cost resources, and to forego administrative red tape associated with individual purchasing. In its recent report, “The Road Back: Restart and Recovery Plan for Education,” the Department of Education encouraged districts to use the cooperative purchasing services available from various sources, including NJSBA, to address the fiscal challenges resulting from the pandemic.

“We are pleased to offer the Canvas Learning Management System to our local boards of education as part of the NJSBA TEC Cooperative Pricing System,” said Dr. Lawrence S. Feinsod, NJSBA executive director. “New Jersey’s educators are working hard to ensure that the online learning they offer is engaging and effective, and the Canvas LMS will be a valuable tool in this enterprise.”

“As New Jersey school districts continue to evaluate the best model for learning this fall, Canvas and the New Jersey School Boards Association have simplified the opportunity to quickly adopt the Canvas Learning Management Platform, which has been built to support an in-person, online, or a blended model making it easier on students, teachers and parents,” said Melissa Loble, chief customer experience officer at Instructure.

“We are proud to team with NJSBA and our reseller partners to again expand the offerings available through the TEC CPS to include the Canvas LMS. Canvas’s support of learning across virtual and in-person environments enables school districts and charter schools to remain agile and maintain quality of instruction,” said Tim Boltz, Director of Educational Technology at Carahsoft.

About the Canvas LMS

The Canvas Learning Management Platform connects teachers and students at the point of learning. Canvas streamlines digital tools and content and allows schools to build a digital learning environment that meets their unique challenges. It also helps create a custom K–12 learning environment to equitably scale student achievement. Whatever the learning initiative, Canvas is there to support and connect it—from scaled curriculum and formative assessment to showcased learning and teacher development.

The addition of Canvas to the NJSBA TEC program will help school districts address “Continuity of Learning,” a key area of the state’s school reopening plan.

NJSBA provides training, advocacy and support to advance public education and promote the achievement of all students through effective governance.
