2020 saw more than 10 million DDoS attacks, with victims ranging from private citizens to large businesses. These attacks cost the victims money and time because they rendered their resources and services inaccessible. The most typical way for an attacker to launch a denial-of-service (DoS) attack is to flood a network server with traffic, frequently from forged or unauthorized return addresses. This misleads the server when it tries to authenticate the requestor. The Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate have been developing a way to protect businesses, critical infrastructure, and other individuals from these attacks. RESILIANT SDP (software defined perimeter) was launched by the work DHS S&T funded to address Zero Trust security. This company and commercial offering successfully reduces the number of attacks by “hiding” services and applications, which is done by creating a trust zone around them.
