After a merger of several divisions across the USDA, the new Warehouse & Commodity Management Division (WCMD) embarked on a systems modernization initiative to eliminate redundancies and inefficiencies across multiple teams. WCMD sought a solution to consolidate its tech stack while moving to modern, cloud-based technology. While replacing multiple disparate systems, the new solution transformed a 60-day, paper-based contract approval process into a 30-minute, digitized workflow. In addition to the savings of $700,000 in labor, paper, postage, and rent, there was also a $3 million annual cost reduction in mainframe operations fees. More importantly, the new system delivered vastly improved user experiences and increased security, aligning with federal electronic records mandates.
