GTEC 2015 Wrap-Up: Re-Thinking the IT of the Government of Canada

Canada’s premier government technology event, GTEC, took place last week in Ottawa. The event delivered a thought-provoking program focused on providing IT decision makers in the Government of Canada the insights they need into technology and service delivery. The conference was built on four major tracks, all of which centered on themes critical to the Canadian government and moving towards the future of better citizen service and IT management.

When BYOD KNOX

Whether we like it or not, people will bring their own mobile device to the office. Even if they are forced to give up their device at the door, they will use their phone or tablet during off-hours to complete work-related tasks. Therefore, it’s critical that agencies begin to plan for the cybersecurity needs associated with BYOD – and plan for the worst – as well as set boundaries for their employees, and reduce the complexity of creating and enacting a high-functioning BYOD program. In government, it is time to stop fighting, and even to stop so vehemently policing BYOD, and time to accept it as a business practice and a business risk.
