Carahsoft’s fifth annual Citizen Engagement Seminar will take place June 11 in Washington DC. This event brings together government thought leaders and private industry to discuss ways government can improve their service to citizens.
A recent report from the from the American Customer Satisfaction Index showed that citizen satisfaction with federal government services has dropped for a second consecutive year, only ranking above internet service providers. It is a critical time for this discussion so we’ve called in the big guns. Our keynote presenter is one of the most iconic figures in the U.S. – Smokey Bear.
Actually, Michael Bellavia, the social voice for Smokey, will be doing the talking. As the CEO of HelpsGood, Bellavia works with the USDA Forest Service, the Ad Council, and the National Association of State Foresters to give Smokey a voice on social media (Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, and the Huffington Post). Bellavia will share how Smokey’s presence on social media has helped these organizations share their message of wildfire prevention to a wide audience on a daily basis. He’ll also share some of the fun – yes, government social media can be fun and spontaneous – they’ve had online, like relating a Grammy-nominee’s hat to Smokey’s favorite accessory, as well as some real connections they have been able to make through interacting with people affected by wildfires.
Bellavia will talk through how he’s helped to build a strong and engaged social following as well as how Smokey’s Twitter has earned the trust of agency leadership to work in real-time, interacting with their followers.
