Madness is one of the latest malware bots designed to carry out Denial of Service Attacks. The team at F5 did a quick analysis of the threat and outlined some things to look out for.

Madness is an interesting bot that personifies an attack trend which security experts have seen growing – attacks at layer 7, the application layer. This particular type of attack combines traditional network-based DoS capabilities and a number of application layer attacks. Madness does not seem to be aimed at getting into applications to grab data, yet many other forms of malware attacks are using the larger DDOS assaults as a smokescreen. These other types deploy their mask and then are able to gain valuable data from the layer 7 attack.
