In a recent study on smartphone use, 40% of survey respondents said they use their phone to look up government services and information.

At this year’s Red Hat Summit, Red Hat announced the general availability of OpenShift Enterprise 3. OpenShift Enterprise is a Platform as a Service (PaaS) that helps application development and IT operations teams create and deploy apps with speed and consistency. This is one of the most groundbreaking releases of the year, making OpenShift the first enterprise ready web-scale container application platform. OpenShift is based on Docker and Kubernetes to deploy, run, manage, and orchestrate container based applications.

On August 5, 2015, Red Hat announced the general availability of Red Hat Enterprise Linux OpenStack Platform 7, based off of the latest OpenStack community release, Kilo. Version 7 is a production-ready cloud platform that provides a highly scalable, fault tolerant platform for building private or public clouds. With this release, Red Hat has really focused on accelerating the adoption of OpenStack by simplifying installation and configuration.

In June, the U.S. House of Representatives officially approved the use of open source software within its IT system; this means that staff can use their budget (i.e. taxpayer money) to buy open source software.
