In 1996, NIST developed FIPS, or the Federal Information Processing Standards, under the Information Technology Management Reform Act (Public Law 104-106). The act was originally issued to establish technology standards for non-military government agencies; the act has since evolved to keep up with the IT landscape, including mobility.

The term “data at rest” is misleading. Nimble Storage recently received Federal Information Processing Standard (FIPS) 140-2 certification from the U.S. Government’s National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This means the company’s Adaptive Flash platform can address the stringent security mandates of federal customers and partners.
