Whether your applications just need Tomcat, a full Java EE container or something in between, Red Hat meets these varying requirements by providing a choice of application server runtime platforms that are tailored to each specific type of Java application. In this session, the JBoss Application Platform Management Product team will provide:
- Background into Red Hat's strategy for addressing the variety of application requirements for government IT from development through to deployment
- An overview of the differences between Red Hat's solutions for Java applications: JBoss Enterprise Application Platform, JBoss Enterprise Web Platform and JBoss Enterprise Web Server
- Insight into the major features of new major releases and upcoming product road map details
- Live demonstration illustrating features, benefits and differentiators of JBoss Application Platform
The Next Generation Portal: Providing a Rich End-User Experience
Noelle Jakusz, Middleware Solution Architect, Red Hat
In March, Red Hat announced the delivery of GateIn 3.0 which represents the next generation of enterprise portal technologies. GateIn is intended to form the foundation of the JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform which will be generally available this spring. The objective of EPP is to enable organizations to easily create and manage rich portal-based application experiences with minimal impact on IT people and technology resources. This technical session will cover:
- EPP's overall user interaction architecture
- Key technical advantages next generation portals
- The GateIn partnerships and ecosystem
- Our long term road map for the JBoss Enterprise Portal Platform
SOA Platform v5: Deep Dive Presentation & Demonstration
Burr Sutter, Senior Product Manager, JBoss Middleware, Red Hat
This session will explore the product strategy and value proposition for JBoss Enterprise SOA Platform, with special focus on the new features and differentiators of SOA-P 5. You'll learn how to leverage the new features and functionality to rapidly, and cost-effectively develop, deploy and manage SOA-based solutions that solve real problems. Business Track
Business Intelligence/Data Virtualization
Moderator: Ken Johnson, JBoss Senior Product Manager, Red Hat
Panelists:
Jim Mlodgenski, Chief Architect, EnterpriseDB
Paul Loeffler, Director of Government Programs, Jaspersoft
Dedra Robertson, Chief, Systems Design and Development, Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA)
Business Intelligence and Data Virtualization have been around for years. However, these technologies, used both together and standalone, are seeing increasing interest, adoption, and deployment for several reasons including:
- An explosion of information and information sources
- Need for ever more rapid and accurate decision making
- Open source enabling an easy on-ramp to technologies that were previously out of reach due to cost and complexity
This session will feature several panelists from open source vendors and government programs that will provide their ideas and perspectives on data virtualization, data management, and business intelligence, including benefits to be gained, current trends, and the impacts of open source.
Open Source Middleware in the Real World
Moderator: Burr Sutter, Senior Product Manager, JBoss Middleware, Red Hat
Panelists:
Keith Grange, Enterprise Services Engineer, Argon ST
Mike Howard, Director of Open Systems Architecture, QinetiQ North America
Andrew Gordon, Unisys
Open source has become a very popular topic in today's software discussions, but how is it being used in the real world? This session will feature several open source panelists from various government programs that will provide their unique perspectives related to their use and adoption of open source. In addition to audience proposed topics, this session will discuss:
- How government programs are currently using open source
- How open source can be used in security accredited environments
- How increased agility, openness, collaboration, efficiency, and a more transparent government strategy can be achieved with open source
- How open source commoditization often provides not only the low cost solution, but also the best technical solution
- Why there is strong synergy between developer best practices and open source
- How important enterprise supported open source is compared to community supported open source
- How government entities can contribute back to open source as well as create their own open source communities
Managing Your Middleware Environment
Moderator: Rich Sharples, Director of Product Management, JBoss
Panelists:
Isaac Christoffersen, Contributor, InCommon
Doug Schnelzer, Chief Technologist, Vizuri
Raja Gudepu, SOA Practice Lead, Amentra Inc.
Application Management has become increasingly complex and difficult. There is a growing disconnect between developers and operations in managing the various phases of application lifecycle because of the lack of an integrated tool set to manage the various aspects of the application lifecycle. This session will cover two topics:
- An in-depth discussion on application management challenges - the what and why of running an IT infrastructure of business critical applications
- A live demo of JBoss Operations Network - Red Hat solution for managing your JBoss middleware environment that simplifies the management of application life cycle, and promotes better communication between development and operations teams within an IT organization
Hands-on Computer Lab
Choose one of the following technologies to focus on during the hands-on computer lab. Red Hat engineers will be supervising the sessions to guide you through the lab and answer any questions. All of the technologies listed will be offered in each of the three computer lab breakouts.
Instructors: Jim Tyrrell & Chuck Mosher
JBoss Developer Studio w/ Seam/Hibernate Fundamentals
Walk through the steps of going from a blank JBoss Developer Studio instance to a working CRUD (Create, Read, Update, and Delete) web application in moments. Learn how to test the generated artifacts, change the look and feel, inject security, create new pages and more.
JBoss Developer Studio w/ Service Oriented Architecture
Walk though the steps of going from a blank JBoss Developer Studio instances to various artifacts needed for development and deployment on to the JBoss Service Oriented Architecture Platform. Explore how to do content transformations, expose web services, consume/test web services via SOAP-UI, create custom actions, and learn about the various components of the JBoss Service Oriented Architecture Platform.
Clustering Setup with JBoss
Learn how to use mod_jk/mod_cluster, Apache and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform to setup a robust cluster of JBoss instances. Explore various configuration options for each of the layers (Apache HTTPD, mod_jk/mod_cluster, and JBoss Enterprise Application Platform.
JBoss Operations Network Setup and Management of JBoss
Learn how to setup JBoss Operations Network Server and Agents to monitor running JBoss Enterprise Application Server instances on the network. Explore the GUI to learn its features and functions, setup alerts based on statistics reported to JON, explore how to configure group wise actions, and other tips and tricks while using JON.
Business Rules Management System Hands-On
Explore the Business Rules Management System to learn how to create decision tables, domain specific language artifacts, test cases, packages, and more while also exploring how JBoss BRMS can streamline tasks for business analysts. Typically business rules are coded into Java requiring extensive time, money, and effort to even make simple changes to the flow of an application, learn how the BRMS can greatly speed up time to market.
Data Services Platform Hands-On
Explore the Data Services platform to learn how to integrate various disparate data sources (XML, relational, and others) into a unified view of data giving you a single source of truth. In this lab explore how to setup the data services platform for different data feeds from things like databases, flat files, xml, and web services and provide a unified schema/view of the data.
