Driving Innovation Through Collaboration
Forge.mil is the groundbreaking DISA initiative that is transforming the way software is developed within the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD). It is a collaborative software development environment that attracted over 1000 members and 50 projects in the first 3 months of Limited Operational Availability (LOA). Forge.mil utilizes an application lifecycle management (ALM) platform, open source collaborative principles, and the DoD private, secure cloud computing infrastructure to reduce costs and speed innovation. - to accelerate software delivery to the war fighter.

DISA Partners in Delivering Forge.mil
Two leading technology companies have partnered with the DoD to deliver Forge.mil.
- Carahsoft Technology Corp. the trusted government IT solutions provider and a top-ranked GSA Schedule Contract holder, who is proud to serve as the prime contractor for the Forge.mil program.
- Forge.mil is powered by CollabNet TeamForge, the leading application lifecycle management platform for distributed software development teams, and CollabNet Subversion, the best version control and software configuration management (SCM) solution for distributed teams.
As CollabNet's Master Government GSA Partner and Aggregator, Carahsoft acts as the sole Government GSA Schedule Provider for Forge.mil and CollabNet's products and services. For the convenience of our Department of Defense customers, Carahsoft also provides CollabNet's products and services via a Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Enterprise Software Initiative (ESI) Blanket Purchase Agreement. Forge.mil Access
Currently SoftwareForge.mil is available on both the unclassified and classified DoD networks. Next component to be rolled out is ProjectForge (October 09).
- SoftwareForge: Collaborative software development environment for anyone in the DoD community (partners included) to contribute to DoD open source, or Government Purpose Rights (GPR) projects. Promotes software reuse within the DoD.
- ProjectForge: A private, gated, controlled project space not visible to the SoftwareForge community. DoD and Federal System Integrators would purchase seats on an annual basis as a service from DISA.
These initial Forge.mil software development capabilities are growing to support the full system life-cycle and allow for continuous collaboration among all stakeholders including developers, testers, certifiers, operators, and users.
