This presentation reviews project aXiom, a Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SPAWAR) initiative to support Web-based dissemination and analysis of data critical to situational awareness. The project deploys applied semantics and ontologies to establish a unique context management framework in a SSOA.

Combining commercial and open source software, the aXiom team has designed a dynamic operating environment with Thetus semantic knowledge modeling technology residing at its core. The project uses ontologies to model enterprise constructs and provide semantic services that advance information accessibility and application integration to new levels. This case study illustrates how ontologies and semantics can be used to deliver content and services to the right users at the right time and demonstrates the considerable real-world capabilities that SSOA affords.

aXiom team members will participate in the webinar to present the project's underlying architecture, explain the application of semantic rules, discuss best practices, and address questions regarding the implementation of semantics in an SSOA environment.
